The Cleveland Cavaliers have officially signed free agent Thomas Bryant, a 6-foot-10 NBA veteran center, to a one-year contract. This new acquisition should provide the team with serious backcourt depth heading into their first season under head coach Ime Udoka.
In Bryant, who’s played the past eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, the Cavaliers are getting a player with championship experience and skill. He played in 56 games last season, on the Indiana Pacers, starting in eight of those games. In that span, he scored 6.9 points per game, on 24% shooting from the field. He snatched almost four rebounds per contest, flashing his versatility and effort on both sides of the floor.
During his career, Bryant has proven to be a solid contributor averaging 8.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. His shooting efficiency is insane — he’s a career 58.2% from the floor. The numbers perfectly encapsulate his ability as a proven, high-level scorer and impactful force around the basket.
Prior to joining the Cavaliers, Bryant played for several teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, and Denver Nuggets. Each stop in his career has allowed him to develop his game and play different styles of play. This was invaluable experience for the Cavaliers, who will attempt to use this summer to fortify their core.
The Cavaliers are obviously going to be looking to take advantage of Bryant’s experience and versatility. They think he’ll bring a much-needed shot of support and depth to the center position. His ability to score within the paint and rebound could prove vital as the team navigates through a competitive season.
