The Hundred Introduces Player Auction and Salary Increases for 2026 Season

The Hundred, the innovative cricket format that’s thrilled audiences since its inception, has revealed significant changes for the 2026 season. They will bring in a player auction and raise salaries substantially for men’s and women’s competitions. Unchartered Waters This new initiative hopes to improve the caliber of competition and the overall buzz surrounding the event.

The men’s competition will receive an impressive 45% salary pot increase. It will double from £1.403 million to £2.05 million per team. At the same time, the women’s competition salary pot will double, from £430,000 to £880,000. These changes are yet another sign of the ICC’s increasing commitment to having women’s cricket on par with men’s.

Female players will get their minimum salary boosted up by 50%. It will increase from £10,000 to £15,000. The men’s minimum salary will be frozen at £31,000. The move to increase salaries is the latest from The Hundred as it looks to lure the best players possible to both leagues.

The auction format allows teams in the experiment to sign four players. This will all take place during a special window that goes from mid-November through the end of January. During this special release process, teams are allowed to protect one player from their 2025 roster. They then have to recruit three new players, who can only either be overseas development players or England contracted players. In addition, franchises will have the discretion to issue multi-year contracts.

Perhaps the second biggest alteration sees the number of international players allowed in each matchday squad raise, from 14 up to 17 for both competitions. The diversity and competitive advantage that a third team-member can bring will become more pronounced, as the limit goes up from three to four players per team.

Vikram Banerjee, the urban planner that played a major role in the city’s planning process, was excited about the future possibilities.

“Working alongside our new partners we’ve been exploring how we can take The Hundred forward and we’ve decided that moving to an auction will allow us to improve the competition,” – Vikram Banerjee.

Georgia Adams, an England international and player in The Hundred, stressed the need for player agency in the auction prior to her involvement in the process.

“These changes will help us make the competition even better, ensuring we get the best players in the world and improving the standard of cricket and level of entertainment,” – Vikram Banerjee.

The sixth season of The Hundred would take place in July and August 2026. With these updates, we look forward to an even more vibrant and electrifying environment in T-Town that players and fans alike will enjoy!

“Players want to have some say in where they go,” – Georgia Adams.

The sixth season of The Hundred is scheduled to take place during July and August of 2026, and these updates are poised to create an even more dynamic atmosphere for players and fans alike.
