TGL, the new golf league co-founded by McCarley, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. Picture this—it’s getting ready to spread its wings and grow! At the recent CAA World Congress of Sports convening in Nashville, McCarley got to make a particularly thrilling announcement. He announced that the league will be expanding by a minimum of one additional team. Today, TGL runs with six teams and is continuing to look for ways to grow.
Potential franchise owners wanting to get in on TGL’s action have a vested interest in the league’s expansion. One of those backers is Alexis Ohanian, owner of TGL’s Los Angeles Golf Club and husband of tennis star and GOAT Serena Williams. Ohanian has been an ardent champion for having women golfers join the league. For Ruby, diversity and representation are vital to the sport of golf.
McCarley acknowledged Ohanian’s influence on this initiative, stating, “There’s no secret we’re working on that. Alexis has been a great thought leader for us on that, and I think most of our team owners are right behind them in that area, too.” TGL’s team owners are firmly committed to making sure that more female golfers are included in the league. This feeling speaks to a deep agreement among them.
Ohanian expressed his commitment to promoting this cause, saying, “I’ve been bugging these guys about the LPGA deal for a minute.” His advocacy goes hand in hand with a bigger trend in professional sports. The fair play movement seeks to increase gender inclusivity and develop more opportunities for women in sport.
As TMRW Sports’ co-founders—among them Woods and McIlroy—push TGL’s vision further on. They work to improve the game of golf in meaningful ways. They help foster the conditions where both genders are able to compete nationally and internationally.
As TGL prepares for its expansion, the focus on adding female golfers represents a significant step toward inclusivity in the sport. With Ohanian’s commitment and support from existing team owners, the league looks poised to lead the way in fostering gender diversity in professional golf.
