TGL Golf Expands to Detroit with New Franchise for 2027 Season

Fans of TGL Golf, we have some thrilling news—there’s a SEVENTH team! Motor City Golf is the seventh league member, set to launch with the other teams in 2027. This new franchise will be Detroit’s own and will strive to bring the spirit and thrill of tech-influenced golf to southeast Michigan. The announcement further emphasizes TGL Golf’s commitment to growing the game beyond its current popularity. It hopes to engage committed sports communities nationwide.

Motor City Golf will be jointly owned by well-known locals Steve Hamp and Sheila Ford Hamp. Sheila Ford Hamp is the principal owner and chairwoman of the Detroit Lions. She has deep experience in leadership development and sports management to further strengthen the team. Michael Hamp, Peter Hamp, and Kevin Kelleher will be at the helm of the franchise. Joining the team will be Michael Hamp, who will act as team governor. His connection to Middle West Partners adds to the ownership group’s business savvy.

In its inaugural season, TGL Golf featured six teams representing major cities, including Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco/Oakland, and Jupiter, Florida. Each squad is made up of four golfers. During each match at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, three players face off. This unique mix of old-school golf and cutting-edge technology makes for a compelling viewing experience.

TGL and TMRW Sports CEO Mike McCarley, in Detroit on Monday for the announcement of the new franchise there, couldn’t be happier. He makes the case that the city is a great sports town! The introduction of Motor City Golf aligns with TGL Golf’s vision to connect with local communities through dynamic sports entertainment.

The Detroit expansion is indeed proceeding. In other TGL news, a coalition led by SMU is preparing to submit a $77 million bid for a Dallas TGL franchise. This potential expansion is a clear sign that there’s a major, burgeoning interest in TGL Golf and its pioneering approach to the sport.

The second season of TGL Golf will start in January 2026. It’s still unclear if more expansions will join before this new season kicks off. As TGL Golf continues to develop and grow its presence in the sports world, fans can look forward to more exciting announcements in the future.
