The Houston Texans are ready to experience one of the biggest turnarounds in 2023 after a flurry of moves in the last year. His new team has completely overhauled its offensive line. Most importantly, they’ve lost Pro Bowler left tackle Laremy Tunsil, left guard Kenyon Green and right guard Shaq Mason. Collectively, this trio represented 41 starts in 2024. In their stead, the Texans have brought in new blood, a promising indication that they are serious about improving the state of their offense.
As part of the overhaul, the Texans signed tackles Robinson and Trent Brown, as well as left guard Laken Tomlinson. Then, they went out and traded for former Minnesota Vikings right guard Ed Ingram. These acquisitions will hopefully help shore up that offensive line and keep the Heat seeking C.J. Stroud more upright.
In the recent NFL Draft, the Texans focused heavily on offense, selecting six offensive players out of their nine picks. This strategy further demonstrates the team’s commitment to putting their young quarterback in a position where he can be successful through the right tools. One of the more surprising selections was left tackle Aireontae Ersery from Minnesota. He was selected in the second round as the No. 48 overall selection.
The Texans, wide receiver hungry, selected Jaylin Noel at No. 79 in the third round. Seahawks rookie receiver Noel wowed scouts with his straight-line speed, running a 4.37-second 40-yard dash at the combine. He expressed his excitement about joining the Texans and reuniting with his brother, stating:
“It’s a crazy feeling, obviously wasn’t expected, but it’s a blessing and something it’s just words can’t really explain it, to be able to team up with my brother again.” – Jaylin Noel
>The other notable addition was wide receiver Jayden Higgins, taken with the No. 34 overall pick. Higgins is listed at 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds. He is able to pair his eye-popping size with eye-popping speed, clocking in a sub 4.5 second 40 yard dash with a 4.47 second time. His size and speed combination would be extremely valuable as the Texans continue to find ways to improve their offensive talent.
In conversations with Texans General Manager Nick Caserio, he continuously emphasized the need for versatility within players. For Dunn, flexibility means a world of possibility on the field. He stated:
“If you play one spot, you’d better be really good at it. If you play multiple spots, it creates more opportunities for you. We will put the five best guys out there whenever we need to play in September.” – Nick Caserio
Head Coach DeMeco Ryans shared his optimism regarding the revamped roster, particularly for Stroud, stating that he should be “excited about the targets that he has to throw to.” This feeling is reflective of a top-down commitment to creating an offensive environment best suited to developing and nurturing their preferred young quarterback.
Taken as a whole, the Texans’ approach this offseason embodies the idea that they’re ready to learn, and they’re ready to grow. And for the next little bit, they’re calling attention to major statistical achievements from last season. Meanwhile, they’re accumulating young, exciting players via trade and the draft, laying the groundwork for a long-term renaissance.
