The Houston Texans would go on to officially re-sign another veteran defensive tackle in Folorunso Fatukasi. With this decision, their defensive front lineup in this next season looks solid. Fatukasi, 30, was instrumental to the Texans’ stellar run defense a season ago and played an outsized role in their overall success.
Fatukasi first signed with the Texans in March 2024 after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. His first year with the Texans, he started 11 games. Given the opportunity, he quickly established himself as a centerpiece of the team’s defensive game plan. His dogged determination was instrumental in the Texans finishing ninth in the NFL for fewest rushing yards allowed. They finished eighth in yards per attempt, with 4.2 yards on every throw.
Perhaps the most impressive stat of Fatukasi’s season last year was his run stuff rate of 4.8%, which topped all members of the Texans’ defensive unit. He ranked third on the team with eight run stuff tackles. This accomplishment serves as a testament to his ability to neutralize rival offenses. In his seven-year career, he has 187 tackles with 27 for loss and 22 total quarterback hits.
Fatukasi joined the NFL as a sixth-round pick by the New York Jets in the 2018 draft. His range has improved and he’s developed a reputation of being a consistent defensive anchor. He’s always good about blowing up plays and picking his teammates up with timely help in key moments. At Louisville, he capped his college career with an impressive record that would soon take him on a journey to the NFL.
Fatukasi will join a deep and talented defensive line that includes Pro Bowler Jeffery Simmons, studs like Mario Edwards Jr. and Denico Autry. His goal is to take the Texans’ defensive prowess to another level. His experience and skill set out perfectly with the team’s mission of looking to turn their overall performance around this coming season.
