Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward has been arrested on a warrant for a third degree felony. This is his second bust in barely two months. This most recent incident came after he tested positive for alcohol, a violation of his prior release. Steve Jackson, Ward’s attorney, corroborated the account of what happened. He announced that Ward had spent a night in jail and had been released after posting $30,000 bail.
On October 3, federal authorities arrested Ward. This after an earlier incident on June 12, when they arrested him in his own home in Magnolia, Texas. He had a felony domestic violence charge for allegedly punching an intimate partner. Reports suggest that as part of the hijacking, he strangled and threatened the victim with murder. Jackson reports that the case will soon be in front of a grand jury, August 31. He hopes to see Ward “vindicated at the end of all this.”
So, even with all his legal trouble, Ward was still a major playmaker for the Texans. In 2023, he hit free agency and signed a two-year, $13 million deal. Prior to that he relished nine fruitful seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. After his departure from the Giants, he signed with the Texans and again reunited with head coach DeMeco Ryans. Ryans had coached him from 2017 to 2022 in San Francisco.
Ward is presently on the Texans’ PUP list due to a Lisfranc injury. He’s yet to be activated to train camp. To start the 2023 season, he played in just 10 games while battling through a shoulder injury, recording an interception in the process. The Texans picked up his contract for an extra year in August 2024.
On the subject of Ward’s legal issues, General Manager Nick Caserio had this to say. He urged everyone to allow the legal process to work.
“Kind of let the legal process take care of itself.” – Nick Caserio
Caserio did not rule out the team collaborating with the league if protocols needed to be established.
“We will work with the league. We will be compliant on our end, do the best we can.” – Nick Caserio
As the Texans get through this difficult circumstance, Caserio certainly sounded confident about emerging successfully from the result.
“Whatever the outcome is, we’ll handle it accordingly.” – Nick Caserio
