BBC Sounds continues to enhance its cricket programming with the popular show Test Match Special, which features comedian and statistics expert Andy Zaltzman. The program includes live cricket commentary that gives fans a true sense of the game. Fans can experience more through fun interactive segments such as the “Daily Quiz.”
Zaltzman, known for his cutting humor and knowledge of the minutiae of cricket stats, poses a difficult teaser question each day. These ordeals test listeners’ devotion and cricket expertise. The program includes two particularly excellent quizzes – “Batting averages greater than 50” and “Not outs in the 90s.” These fun quizzes serve the dual purpose of keeping fans entertained while exposing them to the complex world of baseball.
Last episode, Test Match Special took listeners through a nail-biter of a match. Joe Root finished day one not out on 99 runs! Root’s performance provided a solid foundation for the England team, which faced off against India at the historic Lord’s cricket ground. Alongside him, the all-rounder Ben Stokes brought more solidity, anchoring the innings while still keeping the run-rate rewarding.
The new program includes an expanded menu of audio offerings. It features short, one to two minute quizzes, providing a seamless experience for fans to engage despite their hectic lives. Since its launch more than a year ago, Test Match Special has been a mainstay of the BBC Sounds top programs. We’re particularly excited that this lineup includes content in Cymraeg, Gaeilge, and Gàidhlig.
After every match, Fans have a front-row seat to top-notch analysis and excitement. As such, Test Match Special has long entranced cricket fanatics, providing news and education in equal measure to pure hilarity. Zaltzman’s jokes, debates and energetic quizzes make for a fun format.
