The Golden State Warriors are preparing to take on the Houston Rockets this Sunday. It’s a pivotal Game 7 in their tightly contested Western Conference first-round series. This Saturday night’s matchup would be the second Game 7 played between these two teams. The first came a little over five minutes into the 2018 Western Conference finals. The stakes couldn’t be higher for Houston! A win would clinch their place in the semifinals and be their third time in NBA history overcoming a 3-1 series deficit in postseason play.
After all, the Warriors had their own significant 3-1 series lead once. They’ve tripped up in the past two contests vs. the Rockets. Now, Houston has reversed that momentum completely in their favor. This move adds to suspenseful, high-stakes conditions on both sides as each roster prepares for this critical battle. The winner will move on to meet the Minnesota Timberwolves in the semifinals, with Game 1 set for Tuesday.
Stephen Curry, the greatest Game 7 player in history. He’s averaged a terrific 32.6 points in Game 7s over his career. This excellent performance puts him fourth all-time among players having played at least three such games. Only legends Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Michael Jordan have better career averages. In the current postseason, Curry delivered an extraordinary performance with 50 points in a Game 7 victory against the Sacramento Kings during their first-round series.
The Warriors have their eyes set on retaking their crown and moving on to the second round. They’ll need to use Curry’s leadership and scoring ability to carry them through this must-win game. The pressure is on Golden State after losing two consecutive games to Houston, which has become a formidable opponent in this series.
Should the Rockets prevail on Sunday, they would not only achieve a historic comeback from a 3-1 deficit but join an elite group of teams that have managed such a feat. Just 13 teams in NBA history have erased a 3-1 series deficit. Which is what makes Houston’s possible victory all the more momentous!
