Iga Świątek continued her impressive run at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, effortlessly securing a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Karolína Muchová to advance to the quarterfinals. The match, held on Tuesday, saw Świątek extending her dominance as she lost only six games across her opening three matches. Her aggressive style and strategic play were evident as she took control from the outset against Muchová.
Świątek's journey in Indian Wells began with victories over Caroline Garcia and Dayana Yastremska. Her latest win against Muchová showcased her ability to limit mistakes and maintain focus throughout both sets. Świątek won five break points and an impressive 78% of her service points. Her performance has seen her reach more quarterfinals in WTA 1000 events than any other player, underscoring her consistency and prowess on the court.
“I just didn’t want to let Karo (Muchová) be able to start playing her game. And I’m happy that I did that ‘til the end,” Świątek stated in her post-match press conference.
Świątek's next challenge will be against Zheng Qinwen, marking their first encounter since the 2024 Olympics. In previous matchups, Świątek has triumphed in all six encounters against Zheng before being upset at the Olympics. Reflecting on her upcoming opponent, Świątek highlighted the importance of adapting and learning from past experiences.
“I need to learn from our last match and see how she plays right now,” said Świątek.
Despite her previous success against Zheng, Świątek remains focused on preparation and adaptation for their quarterfinal clash. Her confidence is buoyed by her current form and her ability to capitalize on opportunities during matches.
“I used my opportunities and I used my chances, and I was pretty focused and composed today. It’s not easy, but I can imagine that it looks like it,” she reflected.
