Surrey have made it official, sealing their place in the first ever women’s T20 Blast final! This accomplishment follows on from their round-robin game versus Durham being washed out. Defending champions Surrey continue to hold sway at the top, 12 points clear of The Blaze in second place. This comfortable position guarantees that they will not be overtaken by any other team, even with one game remaining on the schedule.
Surrey have put together quite the statistical season from top to bottom. The team is currently sitting on top of the North Group after winning 10 of their first 13 T20 Blast matches, with only one loss. Yet that impressive performance has made them one of the most dangerous dark horse contenders in the tournament.
Surrey captain Bryony Smith shared her sentiments on the matter after their match fell victim to the weather.
“It’s obviously not the way we would have wanted to do it, but I think we’ve almost earned the right to have it this way.” – Bryony Smith
The team is further music unbound success on their road to the final! That will take place at the Kia Oval on 27th July. This is a major win for Surrey. They are all in hot competition for the championship crown in the first ever running of this new women’s T20 circuit.
Looking back on the experience, Smith emphasized the joy that she and her fellow players felt while on the way to the final.
“It was all in our hands, and we’re buzzing to only be playing one game at Finals Day. We’re very excited.” – Bryony Smith
Throughout the season, Surrey has showcased remarkable teamwork and skill, with standout performances from players like Ryana McDonald-Gay, who received congratulations from her teammates following a notable earlier match this summer.
