Surrey looked home and hosed as they cruised to a thrilling eight-run victory over Middlesex in their latest T20 Blast match at Lord’s. With this victory, they have reinforced their position atop the pecking order in the South Group. Surrey take home the victory, and the full four points. At the same time, Middlesex remains without a score and is eliminated from advancing to the next round of the tournament.
Surrey proved their championship credentials with a formidable reply of 189. They did this in only 20 overs, notably doing so down nine wickets. Will Jacks has been Surrey’s star man, starting things off with a brisk 52, proving his worth. In contrast, Curran was the aggressor, scoring 47 runs at a strike rate of 213 off just 22 balls.
In answer, Middlesex obstinately stuck it out to score 185 runs for the loss of just six wickets in their innings. For the home side, Stevie Eskinazi was at the forefront, again with an impressive 53 runs. Sadly, in spite of their noble attempts, they missed the target Surrey set on their behalf by quite some distance.
Ryan Higgins is a standout performer at Middlesex. He went on to take four wickets for just 33 runs, but sadly his personal achievements weren’t enough to bring home a team victory. On the bowling front for Surrey, Chris Jordan was very effective, taking two for 28.
Surrey’s victory confirms their place in the last eight of the T20 Blast, while Middlesex’s defeat means they will not advance further in the competition. The Finals Day will take place on September 13 at Edgbaston. There, the final four squads will compete to become this year’s national champion!
