In a commanding performance, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) triumphed over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), dismissing them for 168 runs in just 18.4 overs. The game played out in legendary Eden Gardens. SRH’s bowlers ran rampant, taking all 10 wickets and leading the team to a commanding victory.
KKR never looked good enough to get to a big total of their own. It was Sunil Narine who was electric, smashing 31 from 16 deliveries. Quinton de Kock had a bad outing, only making 9 runs off 13 balls. On the other hand, Ajinkya Rahane could score only 15 runs off 8 balls, contributing very little too. KKR’s batting line-up collapsed under the pressure, as Andre Russell departed without scoring after facing only one delivery.
SRH’s bowling attack proved too formidable for KKR’s batsmen. Jaydev Unadkat was the spearhead. He kept up his reputation by delivering a top performance in the World Cup final, returning bowling figures of 3/24 in his 4 overs. Happily, Eshan Malinga matched Unadkat’s effort on his T20I debut, taking 3 wickets in 3.4 overs for 31 runs. It was Harsh Dubey who starred for India with ball in hand, helping himself to figures of 3/34 in his 4 overs.
Cummins was the only wicket-taker, but it was a bad day at the office for him. He bowled 2 overs, gave away 25 runs and took a single wicket. The fielding side stretched themselves to break their opponents’ poise. Abhinav Manohar took two important catches, getting rid of both Quinton de Kock and Manish Pandey.
Harshit Rana, a blazing fast bowler, showed his grit, hitting 34 off just 21 balls. KKR was unable to recover from their initial blows. Ramandeep Singh – 13 runs from 5 balls Rinku Singh – 9 runs from 6 balls In spite of each of their efforts, their contributions simply weren’t enough to shift the game’s momentum in their favor.
The match concluded with KKR’s total of 168 all out, underscoring SRH’s dominance throughout the game. Along with this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad further established their spot in the league table. In the process, they showed that they are a serious title contender during this year’s IPL season.
