Stokes and Wood Poised for Ashes Comeback, Says Carse

England pace bowler Brydon Carse has faith Ben Stokes will be in the best shape possible to star in this summer’s Ashes. He’s confident too that Mark Wood will be “raring to go” when the series kick-off on November 21 in Perth. Having all-rounder Stokes, the 34-year-old England skipper, in peak form will be hugely important for his team’s chances. Wood, 35, would provide useful experience, particularly in Australian conditions.

This isn’t the first time Stokes has gone to such extremes, putting himself in harm’s way to help his team. Despite facing several physical challenges, including cuts to his feet and a shoulder injury that caused him to miss the final Test against India in July, he has emerged from a demanding home summer without significant setbacks. So fierce was his competitive spirit that he would wear holes into his bowling boot during matches.

Wood last played Test cricket in August 2024. He’s been bouncing back and forth from a set of nagging elbow and knee maladies. Nevertheless, it is his experience and express pace that make him an ultra-important asset for the England squad. With both having had Test experience in Australia, they are key pace bowlers for the England Test team. Their experience would be valuable for navigating the local conditions.

In effective ways, Carse called attention Stokes’ and Wood’s work on recovery progress. The long-game focus on healing, wholeness, restoration and recovery. He visited them recently at Loughborough and has given positive updates on their fitness levels.

“Ben is looking near enough 100% fit and so is Mark.” – Brydon Carse

Carse underscored the thrill of seeing both players’ extraordinary ascents. They’ve come back remarkably after losing a lot of these fights during the dog days over the summer. What his comments indicate is the increasing positivity in the England camp. They’re preparing to host one of cricket’s crowning glories.

“It’s exciting to see where they have got to after their setbacks during the summer.” – Brydon Carse

The next Ashes series will be the toughest test for England yet. Their squad is being touted as one of the fastest and most hostile groups of fast bowlers to tour Australia in over 50 years. With Stokes and Wood likely to spearhead this endeavor too, their fitness will be crucial to England’s hopes of victory.

Carse is hopeful that the duo’s experience and skill will prove to be crucial in the series.

“They will be raring to go come Australia time.” – Brydon Carse

As the work of preparation goes on, the cricketing world is watching – and hoping – intently. The Ashes series is the ultimate crucible, testing players not just for their technique but their character. It stokes nationalistic fervor, with England eager to regain some historic glory on Australian turf.
