Steve Nash Returns to Phoenix Suns as Senior Adviser

Steve Nash, the legendary former point guard for the Phoenix Suns, has officially returned to the fold as a senior adviser. This announcement comes from the Suns’ owner, Mat Ishbia, who expressed enthusiasm about Nash’s return and his potential impact on the team’s future.

Nash is 51 years young. He is rightfully celebrated for what was an unbelievable career with the Suns, including some of his best overall seasons. He won back-to-back MVP awards in 2005 and 2006 and made eight All-Star teams in his career. His contributions to the sport were recognized when he was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.

Once Nash retired as a player, he quickly made the leap into coaching. He coached the Brooklyn Nets from 2020-2022. His winning percentage (.584) was the best in Mariner history and during his tenure, he posted an overall record of 94-67. It was a rapid and unexpected change of course on Nash’s coaching journey. Following a brutal start to the 2022 season, in which the Texans went 2-5 to begin the year, he was let go from the position.

Now Nash is prepared to take advantage of all that experience and street smarts with the game. As Izzy pointed out, Nash represents exactly what the Suns culture has become and should remain — a mentality of grit, toughness, and desire to win.

There’s no doubt that Nash will help teach the Suns to become champions in the world of professional basketball. He’ll guide them through the difficulties of a intensely competitive field. His return signals a commitment to building on the organization’s storied legacy while aiming for future success.

“His grit, toughness, and winning mentality have defined our organization in the past, and I’m so excited to share that Steve is formally joining the Suns as a senior advisor and will help us define our future for years to come!” – Mat Ishbia

Nash’s role will focus on guiding the Suns as they navigate their path forward in the competitive landscape of professional basketball. His return signals a commitment to building on the organization’s storied legacy while aiming for future success.
