Stephen Curry, the Golden State Warriors' star guard, stands on the cusp of a historic milestone in NBA history. As he continues to redefine the art of the 3-point shot, Curry is expected to break the 4,000 career 3-pointers barrier imminently. This achievement will make him the first player ever to reach this mark, further cementing his status as the preeminent shooter in basketball history.
Currently, Curry has accumulated 3,993 career 3-pointers and is projected to retire with an astounding 4,893 triples. Remarkably, he has already made more 3-pointers in his 30s than legends like Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony did throughout their entire careers. Curry himself expressed his awe at his achievements, saying:
"I feel like I'm living a constant dream," – Curry
Curry's trajectory includes making over 1,000 3-pointers from ages 25 to 28, a feat shared only with a select group of players such as Buddy Hield and Klay Thompson. In this regard, Malik Beasley is poised to join this elite club as the fourth player in history to achieve the same milestone. Meanwhile, Paul George is expected to surpass Beasley soon, continuing the trend of prolific shooters in today's NBA.
In addition to breaking records for his age group, Curry holds five of the top six seasons for most 3-pointers made in NBA history. This includes last season when he performed at an exceptional level even at the age of 35. Curry's rapid ascent from 3,000 to nearly 4,000 triples outpaces his previous climb from 2,000 to 3,000 despite being four years older.
Curry's favorite toy model projects that he has a strong chance of reaching an unprecedented 4,500 career 3s. According to projections, there is a 17% probability of achieving this milestone. Only Jayson Tatum and Anthony Edwards join him with double-digit odds of reaching similar heights.
Reflecting on his journey, Curry acknowledged the rapid evolution of the league's shooting landscape:
"It's crazy because I passed Reggie three years ago and he was second, and now he's fifth." – Curry
Curry has already surpassed Reggie Miller's once-unassailable record of 2,560 triples. However, by the time the current generation concludes their careers, Curry could fall out of the top 25 on the all-time leaderboard due to the increasing emphasis on long-range shooting.
