Veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs has signed with the New England Patriots. He chose this path after only one free agent visit. The 31-year-old baller signed a three-year $69 million deal. That would be the biggest step yet for the Patriots, who formally introduced Diggs at Gillette Stadium on Friday. His mom, Stephanie, joined him for the unveil as well.
Stefon Diggs, whom many thought the Bills were looking at as well, decided after flirting with a few teams to join the Patriots. Despite his significant injury history, Diggs told reporters that he felt really good about his decision and the contract details.
“I kind of figured [the contract] was going to be around that area, considering I’m coming off the injury, but also the fact that I’m one of the only receivers that had six 1,000-yard seasons consecutively [before the injury],” – Stefon Diggs
During his introduction, Diggs answered questions from reporters, expressing excitement about developing a rapport with the Patriots’ second-year quarterback, Drake Maye. Diggs developed a productive connection with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen during their four seasons together (2020-2023). Now, he’s itching to recreate that magic with Maye.
The Patriots’ head coach, Mike Vrabel, highlighted Diggs’ extensive skill set and competitive nature.
“This is a highly competitive, confident receiver that’s produced throughout his career and multiple ways. He’s got a play strength to him. He can play physical, [has] route craft, good at the catch point, has been good in the red zone. There’s a play style to him that I’ve always appreciated…. His conversation, his demeanor, his attitude and his presence have been great through our conversations.” – Mike Vrabel
Stefon Diggs is optimistic about his recovery and future performance.
“I’m ahead of schedule. I’m trying to stay ahead of schedule,” – Stefon Diggs
