Steelers Await Decision from Star Quarterback Aaron Rodgers

With the NFL offseason rolling along, the Pittsburgh Steelers still find themselves chasing a star QB, with Aaron Rodgers still unsigned. Art Rooney II, the team’s long-time owner and president, sounded hopeful on his recent preview offensive. He can’t help but continue to hear that Rodgers is coming towards our way. The Steelers have been courting Rodgers for more than three weeks. They really announced their intentions early, during the negotiating window ahead of free agency’s official start.

Rodgers recently held a throwing session with DK Metcalf, the Steelers’ new wide receiver, in California, showcasing his readiness for the upcoming season. Their first meeting between Rodgers and the Steelers in March must have gone well. Rooney expressed this as an encouraging development for the organization as a whole. Rodgers was immediately intrigued and agreed to meet and discuss opportunities for collaboration in Pittsburgh.

Steelers’ head coach, Mike Tomlin, made it clear that he needed to have an established quarterback room as training camp draws near. He referred to this moment in time a “line of demarcation.” He cautioned that continued ambiguity about the signal-caller situation could stagnate the program’s growth.

Not forever, but a little while longer,” Rooney said when asked for a timeline on Rodgers’ final decision. He confessed that he didn’t foresee the signing process stretching out this long under consideration. What purpose is served by keeping TPP alive and expecting us to postpone this battle until next year’s campaign?

Rodgers’ conversations with the Steelers’ coaching staff were reportedly wide-ranging and stimulating. There’s been a lot of big time coaches that played a big impact on his growth. These type of discussions can help to build the relationship between the player and organization, helping to create a better chance of landing the potential signing.

So even though negotiations were underway with the Eagles, Tomlin still seemed open to waiting for Rodgers. He knew patience only goes so far. “In the spring, it’s about teaching and learning and getting familiar with players and making sure they’re getting familiar with some of the things that we value,” Tomlin explained.

While the Steelers wait for a decision from Rodgers, they are still getting good signals about his signing. Rooney reiterated this sentiment, stating, “We keep getting positive sort of signals about it.” The team is hopeful! They hope they’re one or two lucky rolls away from snaring one of the league’s elite quarterbacks to supercharge their roster for a title run next year.
