The duo’s alliance propelled Sri Lanka to a finals-worthy score of 202 runs in 48.4 overs.
Of the bowlers, it was Shorna whose impressive impact was most felt for Bangladesh. With her impressive figures of 3 wickets for only 27 runs, she single-handedly crumbled the Sri Lankan batting line-up. That was the theme of the game for this Vandy team as they were under pressure the entire game. This is Sri Lanka’s first victory in this edition of the tournament. Before this, they had lost three times and had two games end in draws. Winning on this level greatly enhances the victor’s jubilation factor. It’s also testimony to a team’s spirit and resolve, fighting against the odds when the chips were down.
Looking at it from a general performance perspective, Bangladesh’s fielding struggles was the most alarming element of the tournament as a whole. In the field, they dropped an embarrassing 14 of 27 possible catches. This resulted in a catch efficiency of just 48.1%. This lack of contact has been a big reason for their disappointing stretch in the tournament.
