Sports Interactive Cancels Football Manager 25 Amid Development Challenges

Sports Interactive has announced the cancellation of the highly anticipated game, Football Manager 25. Initially set to launch in early November, the release date faced multiple delays due to a challenging development cycle. The game was to mark significant advancements in the series, including the introduction of women's football and the use of a new Unity game engine. However, after extensive internal discussions with SEGA, the decision was made to cancel the release.

The announcement came via a statement on the Sports Interactive website, which expressed regret for disappointing fans who eagerly awaited the game's release. The company emphasized that the cancellation was not made lightly and aimed to uphold their commitment to delivering high-quality gaming experiences.

"We have always prided ourselves on delivering the best value for money games that bring you countless hours of enjoyment, that feel worth every moment and every penny you spend." – Sports Interactive

The difficult decision to cancel the game followed after careful consideration. Sports Interactive explained that while they could have released Football Manager 25 in its current state and addressed issues post-launch, they believed this approach would not meet their standards or those of their players.

"We could have pressed on, released FM25 in its current state, and fixed things down the line – but that's not the right thing to do." – Sports Interactive

Anyone who pre-ordered the game can claim a refund. The company acknowledged the disappointment this decision brings, especially considering fans were preparing for the first gameplay reveal.

"For the large numbers of you who pre-ordered FM25, we thank you enormously for your trust and support – we're very sorry to have let you down." – Sports Interactive

The focus now shifts to the next installment of Football Manager, expected to release in March. Although no official date has been confirmed, Sports Interactive assures fans they are making every effort to ensure the next release meets expectations.

"Through the cancellation, every effort is now focused on ensuring that our next release achieves our goal and hits the quality level we all expect." – Sports Interactive

The cancellation announcement was made at the earliest possible opportunity, reflecting the company's intent to keep fans informed.

"We know this will come as a huge disappointment, especially given that the release date has already moved twice, and you have been eagerly anticipating the first gameplay reveal." – Sports Interactive
