Souttar’s Potential Return Sparks Hope for Rangers in Title Race

This past week was a pivotal time for the Rangers to turn it around. They will hope to continue their unexpected success over the upcoming holiday programme. Scotland international John Souttar has missed the last eight matches with a muscle injury. He could be back in time for St Mirren’s trip to Ibrox on December 30. The likelihood of him playing in this weekend’s fixture against Motherwell now seems to be in doubt.

Initially, the team has missed Souttar’s contributions. In recent weeks, he’s missed the opportunity to play alongside fellow teammates Derek Cornelius and Nasser Djiga, both missing due to injury and in Djiga’s case, international duty. The return of Souttar would be a welcome addition to the squad as they look to make amends for their poor showing in last season’s title race.

The forthcoming game at home to Motherwell is a huge one for Rangers. The players are hungry to capitalize on recent accomplishments and keep the pressure on their opponents in the league. Coach Danny Röhl expressed optimism about the team’s prospects:

“We will have a lot of supporters, it’s Christmas. Let’s try to create a good energy in the stadium, a togetherness. We have to deliver a proper fight, a good performance on the pitch and take the next result, then we can look to the next game.” – Danny Röhl

Röhl noted that only weeks before, the squad didn’t feel like contenders in the title race. They need it, with only eight games left before the New Year. Now, they’re in unpredictable territory, with a real chance to close the gap between themselves and the league’s top teams.

“Six or seven weeks ago, there was not one thought about the title race, and I think we feel what it means, that we have a chance, even in eight games, to close the gap again.” – Danny Röhl

Röhl was frustrated in particular with the recent outcome vs Hearts. He implored his players to think beyond the past and live in the present. Mr. Bustamante agreed that what’s happening now is a huge reversal from much of the season so far.

“After the Hearts game, of course, the feeling was disappointment, but we have to go forward again.” – Danny Röhl

The possibility of Souttar’s return only further raises the excitement levels as Rangers get set for their busy festive schedule. His involvement in the match with Motherwell remains doubtful. His supporters are hopeful that he’ll be fit in time to face St Mirren.
