The Southern Brave women’s cricket team just did something incredible. They went through the group stages of The Hundred undefeated all the way to a 10 wicket victory in their final fixture against the Welsh Fire. In their last meeting, the Brave pulled off a colossal upset, defeating the Stars by 29 runs. This victory guarantees them a place in the final pool, taking place on Sunday.
Batting first, Southern Brave were swept aside to a modest total of 106 all out. Captain Georgia Adams led from the front with a stunning individual bowling display. She took 1 for 8 in 15 balls. Leading from the front, the team’s best performer was star bowler Lauren Bell, who ripped through the opposition line-up. Bell provided one of the most dramatic finishes to a performance imaginable, taking two wickets with three balls of the match left. He capped the performance with phenomenal figures of 4/6.
Unfortunately for the Welsh Fire, the wheels came off their charge. They ended the match with a score of 77 runs, while losing 9 wickets on the way. Their calamity was complete as they lost their last eight wickets for just 27 runs. Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Freya Kemp were central to Welsh Fire’s innings. Wyatt-Hodge notched up 24 runs and Kemp additional 18 runs as they racked up a mammoth target.
Lauren Bell’s marvelous play lifted her team to the championship. It was a great achievement that established the stunning new record of The Hundred. She finished the tournament as one of the best bowlers, taking a remarkable 19 wickets. This milestone now stands as the most wickets taken in a single women’s Hundred season, further underlining Lanning’s key role in Southern Brave’s fruitful campaign.
The Brave are about to embark on an epic crusade. Their next opponents will be the winners of Sunday’s Northern Superchargers vs London Spirit Eliminator match-up. This fourth and final appearance should be a crowning achievement for the team, one that has proven itself tireless and impressive all tournament long.
