South Africa’s Mixed Performance in T20 Match Against Australia

South Africa men’s T20 cricket team was all the rage recently in a high-scoring thriller against Australia. They put up a mammoth total of 197 with 6 wickets in hand. The unanticipated heroics on the one side and sad dismissals on the other portrayed the pendulum nature of emotions that the T20 format encapsulates.

Markram turned out to be one of the most decisive players in the tournament for South Africa, swinging the bat to remarkable effect. He only got to 46 runs before Owen caught him and Maxwell had his bowler out of the dark. Markram’s innings offered a brilliant base on which the Proteas built their final total. Yet, just as impactful as the debut of coruscating talents were the duds that the squad was forced to endure. Tony Rickelton and Dwaine Pretorius were equally ineffective; each scoring only 0 runs. Gaze had Sthole caught by David, and then Rickelton cleaned up Dwarshuis bowled Sthole out. Pretorius had resisted for 57 balls before Carey stumped him and then Maxwell bowled him immediately after.

The true star of the game was the performance of Tristan Stubbs. He made a classy 91 before a sharp catch by a substitute fielder and then a Zampa’s bowling to perish. Stubbs’ innings proved to be the difference in taking South Africa past a competitive score. David van der Dussen was the top-scorer of the team with 67 runs uplifting his team’s total. He was leg before wicket victim to Dwarshuis, caught by Abbott.

South Africa conceded only seven extras during the entire match, four wides and three leg byes. The tally didn’t include any no balls or byes for the entire match. The team was set an effective target of 197 runs to win the match in a maximum of 20 overs.
