Brandt Snedeker and Geoff Ogilvy will be the two captains for the 16th playing of the Presidents Cup. The 2026 Ryder Cup will be a thrilling addition to Medinah Country Club’s Course No. 3 from September 22 to 27, 2026. The U.S. team will look to defeat the International team in this biennial competition, which features the world’s best professional golfers. Historically, the Americans have been a powerhouse at the competition, with a lifetime record of 13-1-1 against their international competitors.
The Presidents Cup, first held in 1994, has gained prominence as a platform for golfers from around the globe outside of Europe to compete. The fifteenth edition was held last September at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada. The U.S. dominance continued with the U.S. winning the overall competition 18 ½ to 11 ½.
Brandt Snedeker, a seasoned player with nine PGA Tour victories to his name, expressed his excitement about leading the U.S. team. He played in the 2013 Presidents Cup and was a captain’s assistant at the 2024 running. He is expected to be vice captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup. The exciting week-long event will be held on the famed Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, New York.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be named U.S. team captain for the 2026 Presidents Cup by my peers, and I’m looking forward to leading our guys into Medinah for what will certainly be an amazing week of golf,” – Brandt Snedeker
Geoff Ogilvy, the Australian golfer who has a deep history at the Presidents Cup, will captain the International side. He emphasized the importance of solidarity to all players and fans. This is even more pertinent given that the International Team’s shield was first presented in 2019.
“Since Ernie Els debuted the shield in 2019, the International Team’s spirit has intensified and grown as we have rallied around this symbol which embodies our shared ambition and unifies both players and fans,” – Geoff Ogilvy
Ogilvy wants to build on this momentum as he looks to the long, tough challenge of election preparation and campaigning ahead.
“I intend to carry that momentum forward, just as the captains before me have, to build strong support for our international players in the lead up and throughout the event,” – Geoff Ogilvy
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan lauded both captains for their respective leadership personas. He described Snedeker as a “proven leader on and off the golf course” and highlighted Ogilvy’s wealth of experience with the Presidents Cup.
“Brandt is a proven leader on and off the golf course, from his years representing the United States in team competition to building a family foundation benefiting children in his home state of Tennessee,” – Jay Monahan
“Geoff Ogilvy is the perfect captain to lead the International Team into Chicago in 2026, drawing on both his great history with the Presidents Cup and a vast knowledge of Medinah,” – Jay Monahan
Preparations are already in place for that other, more heralded tournament at Medinah Country Club. Like any sports match, both teams are looking to use their strengths and strategies to win the day.
