Sky Sports Expands Premier League Coverage Amid Major Investments in Scottish Football

Sky Sports is going big on the Premier League! Beginning with the 2025-26 season, fans will have 215 live games each season to look forward to. This decision is particularly interesting as the network prepares to air eighty percent of all televised Premier League games next season. Perhaps most insidiously, it consolidates their preeminent role in the football broadcasting establishment.

Sky are reiterating their long term commitment to the Premier League here. As if that weren’t enough, they’ve signed an agreement to broadcast every single Scottish Premiership match live — tripling their football portfolio. Fans can watch Sky Sports’ coverage through regular subscriptions or through largely contract-free streaming on NOW.

The alternative investment landscape in Scottish football is experiencing significant change. One owner, Tony Bloom of Brighton, is starting a revolution with a shockingly progressive proposal. His purpose is to buy a controlling 29 percent interest in Heart of Midlothian (Hearts) for a world-record price of £9.86 million. The Foundation of Hearts elected to vote on this proposal just recently. This decision followed an extensive consultation process that finally approved Bloom’s social investment plans.

Negotiations about Bloom’s interest in investing in Hearts have been in discussions for many months. Hearts recently joined Big Jump partner Bloom’s data-driven analytics firm. Together, they’re hoping to leverage the most advanced data-driven strategies to improve their teams and empower more wins.

Derek McInnes was appointed as Hearts’ head coach after his exit from Kilmarnock, marking a new chapter for the club. In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Hearts’ CEO learned more about the club’s long-term vision. He noted that those investments would level up their competitive aspirations.

In a parallel move, Hibernian has too drawn the limelight for its recent investments. According to Sky Sports News, Bill Foley and the Black Knights have brought some cash into Hibernian. Speaking about the significance of such investments to the further development and sustainability of the club, Ian Gordon, executive director of Hibernian said,

“Me and my family always have the club’s best interests at heart. And when we make these decisions, it’s always with Hibs on the front of our mind.” – Hibernian Executive Director

The overall landscape of Scottish football is changing quickly as clubs look to creative means to gain the upper hand in climbing the leagues. Hearts chief executive Gerry Mallon said the team were “cautiously optimistic” about any proposed changes. More than anything else, he believes we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to challenge the long-standing old boys network in Scottish football and truly become a disruptor.
