In a thrilling encounter, Punjab secured their place in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after a commanding victory over Mumbai. While India’s nonchalance in most review situations throughout the match was puzzling, one big positive was Shreyas Iyer’s emergence as a forceful batsman. That monumental victory came at Wankhede Stadium, where cricket enthusiasts watched one of the most phenomenal batting exhibitions in One-Day history.
In reply, Shreyas Iyer was the major contributor for Punjab with an explosive knock of 87 runs off only 41 balls. His innings featured five fours and a stunning eight sixes, for an incredible strike rate of 212.20. His landmine batting got everyone going. It also inadvertently established a daunting standard for Mumbai to pursue.
Support also arrived from Josh Inglis, the middle-order keeper, whose double hundred was pivotal. Inglis responded with a brilliant onslaught that propelled him to 38 runs from 21 balls. He belted five fours and two sixes to set Punjab’s fury and set the tone for a commanding total. With a strike rate of 180.95, he paced Iyer’s astounding knock beautifully.
Priyansh Arya hit the ball hard at the end of the innings to add 20 runs off just 10 balls which proved to be very useful later on. His blazing hand featured two fours and a six at a strike rate of 200.00. Arya’s quick-fire cameo further solidified Punjab’s position as they sought to secure their place in the final.
Punjab counter-attacked mercilessly and milked useful partnerships on the way to laying out a menacing target for Mumbai. That meant Mumbai found it difficult to keep up with the RRR through the course of their innings. Punjab’s bowlers took the pressure off, ensuring their emphatic victory. This victory secured their place in the championship title match.
