Sherrone Moore, former head football coach of the University of Michigan, has been accused of misconduct in a 2021 lawsuit. Not surprisingly, he was charged with a felony and two misdemeanors just days after his firing from the university. On Friday, Moore appeared via video for an arraignment where he faced a charge of third-degree home invasion, along with two misdemeanor counts: stalking in a domestic relationship and breaking and entering. His bond has been set at $25,000.
Moore’s legal entanglements ballooned after his mugshot of sparkle and shine went viral after being arrested and booked into the Washtenaw County Jail. More recently, the university’s own investigation found credible evidence that Moore had been involved in a sexual relationship with an official staff member. In effect, that got him fired on Wednesday. Specifically, that he illegally entered a woman’s home and raped her. At one point, prosecutors allege, he screamed, “I’m going to kill myself.”
Initially brought on by Jim Harbaugh in 2018 to serve as the Wolverines’ tight ends coach, Moore quickly climbed the ladder. As for Harrell, he was named the offensive coordinator and helped guide Michigan to the 2023 national championship. After Harbaugh left for the NFL, Moore was head coach the last two years.
In the aftermath of these developments, Jim Harbaugh shared that he is “still processing” the sudden dismissal of Moore. After practice on Thursday, Harbaugh learned of Moore’s dismissal from an equipment staffer. This encounter drove home how sudden these circumstances are.
