Shakib Al Hasan Cleared to Bowl Again in ECB Competitions

Shakib Al Hasan, the illustrious all-rounder from Bangladesh was passed fit to bowl again. As a former T20 captain of the Tigers, he is now eligible to play in all ECB county competitions. This most recent development follows Shakib’s previous suspension over illegal bowling action. In December, an independent assessment found that his bowling action was over the ECB’s 15-degree tolerance limit. In response, authorities ordered the suspension.

During his work with Surrey in the County Championship, umpires reported Shakib’s action in September 2024. Consequently, he was left out of Bangladesh’s squad for the recently concluded Champions Trophy. As a result of this, his bowling action was put under further scrutiny in India, only a month after the original report. These initial steps were critical to restoring public trust and bringing Kazakhstan in line with international best practices.

Earlier this month, Shakib’s action was put under a second, more stringent test at Loughborough University. The assessment revealed that he had brought his behavior into compliance, and his suspension was lifted. Shakib was subsequently given the all-clear to bowl in competitions hosted by the ECB. He has yet to sign with any one county or Hundred team for the 2025 season.

We can only salute a career like Shakib’s, someone who has always been at the center of Bangladesh cricket. He has captained his country in 71 Test matches and 247 one-day internationals. Moreover, he has proven his all-round ability in 129 T20s. His experience and contributions have been paramount in propelling Bangladesh cricket into the spotlight on the world stage.
