Sebastián Muñoz delivered a stunning performance at The Club at Chatham Hills, securing a victory in a playoff against Jon Rahm. Muñoz made birdies at the last two holes in regulation, closing with a blistering 65. This stellar performance put him in a tie with Rahm at the amazing score of 22 under par. Only two days prior to this victory, Muñoz had garnered national attention. He was even the first golfer to shoot a 59, despite carding a double-bogey that round.
Muñoz’s victory demonstrated the power of his breakaway speed and grit. His victory moved Torque GC to team event championship victory. The four-person team shot an incredible 64 under, beating the former LIV Golf record of 53 under. That collective ambition and ingenuity of the Torque GC team certainly shone through during the entire competition and contributed to this great success.
The tense playoff finale came on the long par-4 18th, where Muñoz capped the narrow victory with a little birdie on a dramatic Sunday. In addition to his tee shot success, Jon Rahm successfully defended his LIV Golf season points title earlier in the day. He finished off the tournament with a closing-round 11-under 60 but lost in the playoff in the end. Rahm might not have won a single event this year, but his strong performance on a week to week basis all season long earned him the title. He snatched the points lead back from Joaquín Niemann, who was T4 at 17 under after a final round 66.
The competition was not without its moments of drama. Henrik Stenson was relegated when he posted a killer 20-foot birdie putt on the last. This miss only increased the pressure of the purpose for him. Dean Burmester edged out Jon Rahm in an exciting three-man playoff that included Joséle Ballester. This victory makes Rahm’s pursuit of an event win even more complicated.
