The Seattle Seahawks are in the midst of a seismic shift on offense. They’re getting ready for this new NFL season. The team deserves credit for taking bold moves! They replaced their original starting quarterback and two of his top three receivers to spark new life into their offense. The roster is in for a major upgrade! Most notably, they are adding quarterback Sam Darnold and wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
The Seahawks were largely occupied on putting resources into improving the middle of their offensive line. The team clearly has a lot of confidence in their young in-house options. They vigorously chased cheaper replacements such as Teven Jenkins, Dillon Radunz and Lucas Patrick, all of whom have inked deals elsewhere. The team had decided well before the draft to make a huge investment in the future Starting Guard, Will Fries. Instead, he decided to join the Minnesota Vikings.
In this year’s draft, the Seahawks can address defensive tackle and receiver to help continue deepening and strengthening their young roster. Seattle has five picks in the top 92 of that ‘25 NFL Draft. With only ten picks in total, they are well set up to make some real difference making selections.
I know there were a lot of teams ready to create some competition for Kupp’s signature, too. He even suggested that several of those teams had planned to sign the speedy receiver. That said, Kupp made it known that he wanted to go home to Seattle in no uncertain terms.
“You can really look at their offense last year in New Orleans and kind of picture it now, especially with MVS being here,” – John Schneider
Or, um—the Seahawks are beginning a new era. On offense, they are implementing a dynamic new-look scheme under hot-shot new coordinator Klint Kubiak. The practice squad offensive linemen will be tasked with installing this elaborate system through the offseason program. This timing will allow them to get into a rhythm with their newly refashioned roster.
For someone like Mike Macdonald, who was a central player inside the organization, it was quite important that they adjusted to the newcomers. He admitted that all the excitement around the new roster additions is nice, but there’s plenty ahead of them to do.
“I mean, we have a long way to go. We have different players in the building, and we’re really excited about those guys. But as a football team, we have to do a great job throughout the offseason program of installing our process again, not skipping steps, being connected as a football team,” – Mike Macdonald
Macdonald stressed Kupp’s versatility and unrivaled talents as a receiver. He explained that Kupp was able to get separation even against future NFL defenders.
“You could have him covered on paper, but he’s still going to get open,” – Mike Macdonald
Furthermore, Macdonald elaborated on Kupp’s juggling efforts during high-leverage points of the game, mentioning that the defense has to prepare for Kupp when he’s out on the field.
“That’s something that you have to experience in-game. So he’s a guy that you have to account for in a lot of the possession downs and high-leverage situations,” – Mike Macdonald
With these significant changes and the integration of new talent, the Seahawks are poised to enter the 2025 season with renewed vigor. Their strategy goes beyond short-term gains and establishes a path towards long-term success well beyond 2024.
