Seattle Seahawks Bolster Wide Receiver Corps with Rashid Shaheed Trade

Additionally, they have picked up Rashid Shaheed on waivers from the New Orleans Saints. This trade marks the Seahawks’ commitment to bolster their offensive firepower in the second half of the season. Fifty-three years later, Shaheed, who turns 27 this week, has shown plenty of promise and versatility on the field.

Through only nine games this season, Shaheed has already caught 44 passes and totaled 499 yards. He’s found the end zone twice. His phenomenal performance stole the show. He made a Pro Bowl as a return specialist and was a 2023 first-team AP All-Pro kick returner. This recognition continues to underscore his tremendous experience and success in being a dual punt/kickoff returner. This has made him a huge boon for the Seahawks.

To land Shaheed the Seahawks dealt 2026 fourth- and fifth-round draft picks to the Saints. Paint it however you want, but this trade is more than a salary clearance—it’s an investment in the player. He is going to be an unrestricted free agent after this season. The Seahawks are looking forward to reaping the instant impact this pickup will provide. It provides them additional flexibility with their roster moving forward.

Shaheed’s career statistics are starting to show how quickly he’s made an impact. He’s compiled 138 career receptions for 2,055 receiving yards and 12 touchdown receptions. On top of that, he’s thrown for a career rushing touchdown and returned two punts for touchdowns, evidence of a multi-talented player. Last season, he experienced his own disappointment when a meniscus injury cut short a promising season to just six games. Even with this daunting task, he was unbelievably impactful scoring three receiving touchdowns and returning a punt for a fourth touchdown.

Yet this season, Shaheed has mostly focused on offensive roles. So far in his career he has only logged one kick return and ten punt returns. His resume of work on special teams speaks for itself. He is a true dual-threat player who can completely flip the script of a game.

Shaheed’s emergence onto the NFL scene as Weber State’s undrafted free agent rookie last year. In the process, he established himself as one of the best young players to watch. He just signed a one-year, $5.2 million contract extension. The agreement contains a $1 million signing bonus, underlining the Seahawks’ tremendous faith in his skills going forward.
