Seattle Orcas to mutually part ways with head coach Matthew Mott. This decision follows on from a disappointing opening extravaganza of Major League Cricket (MLC) season. Mott, 51, who took over the coaching duties earlier this year, was directly thrown into the proverbial fire. He led the team through five straight losses, which has the Orcas sitting in last place in the league’s standings.
Mott was the England men’s limited-overs head coach between 2022 and 2024. Murray’s time with the Orcas proved to be a tumultuous experience for the coach, with the team failing to get on track during his time at the helm. The franchise ultimately chose to part ways with Mott due in large part to the current 17 game winless streak. Furthermore, there were expressed variations in coaching and organizational approaches.
With the Orcas struggling through the first weeks of the season, concerns grew among fans and front office alike. This performance fueled a movement to re-evaluate the direction and leadership of the team. Hemant Dua, an elected rep from the Orcas-affiliated organization, credited the difficult environment that resulted in Mott’s dismissal.
“This is a moment of reflection and renewal for the Seattle Orcas. This has been a tough run for the team, and with it, some difficult decisions had to be made.” – Hemant Dua
Dua was thankful for Mott’s contributions during his short stay with the franchise.
“We are grateful to Matthew for his commitment and professionalism during his time with us, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors.” – Hemant Dua
These Orcas are committed to getting back together and getting their season back on track. To accomplish that, they’ll have to delicately find a proven replacement capable of immediately establishing a winning mentality in the club’s young squad. Now more than ever, reinforcing the competitive aspect of MLC, where negative performance is always on display.
