Seahawks Re-Sign Linebacker Ernest Jones in Multi-Year Deal

The Seattle Seahawks have secured a significant asset in their defensive lineup by re-signing linebacker Ernest Jones to a three-year contract worth up to $33 million, with $15 million guaranteed. This deal, confirmed by a source to ESPN, positions Jones as a cornerstone for the Seahawks' future defensive strategies. His impact last season was pivotal in transforming Seattle's run defense, which improved from 29th in the league to seventh over the course of the season.

Jones, who was initially selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of South Carolina, has made a name for himself in the NFL over four seasons. He has recorded 458 tackles, including 23 for loss, six sacks, and four interceptions in 63 regular-season games, with 48 starts. His journey has been marked by trades and transitions, including a stint with the Tennessee Titans after being traded by the Rams for a 2026 fifth-round pick.

Despite being traded twice last season, Jones appeared to find stability with Seattle. His performance included finishing third on the team in tackles with 94, along with an interception, a half sack, and a forced fumble in just 10 games. His contributions were instrumental in Seattle's defensive turnaround during the latter part of the season.

Jones underwent a knee procedure described by his agent, Ira Turner, as a "cleanup" operation after the season. Turner expressed optimism about Jones's future, stating:

"It's the best thing to happen to Ernest since the trade to Seattle."

Jones is expected to be healthy moving forward, positioning him as a key player in the Seahawks' defensive plans. His impact was evident previously when he helped the Rams defeat the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI as a rookie, recording a sack and two tackles for loss.

The Seahawks acquired Jones in October as part of a trade deal with the Miami Dolphins that included linebacker Jerome Baker and a 2025 fourth-round pick. This move further solidified their defensive unit and provided Jones with an opportunity to thrive in Seattle's system.
