Seahawks Defensive Tackle Reed Placed on Injured Reserve

The Seattle Seahawks today informed the media that defensive tackle Jarran Reed will be going to injured reserve. His now well documented wrist and thumb injuries have kept him out of the lineup. This news follows a strong contract extension from the Cincinnati Bengals as they get ready for their Week 5 game with the Arizona Cardinals.

Aside from his penchant for improbable, unscheduled heroics, the steady Reed’s been as huge a cog in Seattle’s defensive machine as anybody. After appearing on the Seahawks’ injury report for the second-straight week, signs are starting to point toward his absence. Despite these issues, Reed played in Seattle’s victory over the Washington Commanders last Sunday night, showcasing his resilience and commitment to the team.

This week, Reed was a full participant in practice for all three days, which would instinctively lead one to be optimistic about his recovery. To make matters worse, the team had to change his injury designation to a thumb injury. Because of that and some compounding issues, they ultimately made the decision to put him on injured reserve. Reed’s decision ensures that he will be out of the action for a considerable amount of time. He’ll definitely be out for their critical divisional matchup against the Cardinals.

Seattle will now have to change their entire defensive game plan with Reed expected to miss time. His overall impact on the field has been critical to their run defense and pass rush. With Reed out, the rest of the defensive line will need to pick up the slack to help fill the void.
