Scottie Scheffler went wire-to-wire to win the Procore Championship in runaway fashion on Sunday. This victory represents his sixth PGA Tour win this year. The world’s No. 1 golfer finished strong with a 5-under 67, demonstrating remarkable skill and determination as he made up eight shots on his opponent over the weekend.
Scheffler’s road to victory took a dramatic turn on the par-5 15th hole. That all changed when he sank a critical 15-foot birdie putt to increase his chances. After this, he still showed off his magical touch but just missed two lengthy birdie attempts on the next two holes. He was all confidence and intensity. He needed to be as sharp as was humanly possible for the Ryder Cup matches against Europe that awaited him.
The Procore Championship not only served as a competitive platform for Scheffler but as an ideal preparation for the upcoming Ryder Cup. Like in years past, it was a targeted event that he saw as a golden opportunity to fine-tune his game.
I knew I needed to come through with another big performance,” Scheffler said. Specifically, he talked about the pressure of defending his number one spot going into the last few rounds.
Scheffler’s impressive performance over the weekend, which included a low score of 64 in the third round followed by another solid finish, demonstrated his capability to perform under pressure. Scheffler’s round in the spotlight also dwarf Ben Griffin. Ben had been in the lead earlier in the day as well, but he stumbled by missing a very short putt that let Scheffler take control.
With this win, Scheffler marked his 19th career PGA Tour victory in celebration. This victory provided Cooper with a much-needed stream of confidence heading into the Ryder Cup. His recent strong performances, including a notable showing at the U.S. Open, have positioned him as a key player for the U.S. team.
