New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave has officially been ruled out for Sunday’s season finale against the Atlanta Falcons. He has been diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot in one of his lungs. This news follows what was a tough year with Olave last season as the coach even considered retirement himself last year from head injuries.
At 24 years old, Olave was dealt a heavy hand with grave health issues. He experienced at least two confirmed concussions throughout the 2024 regular season. Both injuries knocked him out for the remainder of the season. Wanting clarity on his future in the world of professional football, he consulted with concussion specialists. Olave said, “It was a hard year last year.” As he thought through his past battles, he began to realize the mental strain that injuries had on him.
Despite these setbacks, Olave aimed to play all 17 games this season, declaring, “I think it’s going to be my first time in my NFL career playing 17.” His dreams of a full season after this latest health scare have been crushed. He has no history of blood clots. This unforeseen development creates concerns for both him and the club.
In a post on Instagram last week, Olave shared a photo of himself in the hospital. He celebrated with an Instagram post that read, “Thank you God for all!!!” His desire to heal as both a human being and as an artist includes being on the mend at least completely in another month.
Olave has made the appropriate strides this season. As he finishes his fourth year in New Orleans, he’s already accumulated over 1,163 receiving yards and nine career touchdowns. Even while fighting a nagging back injury for most of the season, his impact has been felt far and wide by the team.
Olave goes off the pitch, and the focus turns to the season finale. Our prayers are with him, as both he and the Saints organization look to a swift recovery and a bright future. The Saints will have to win out to claim the NFC South without Kamara, as they will host the Falcons to end the season.
