Ryan Campbell Signs Two-Year Contract Extension with Durham

Ryan Campbell, head coach of the Durham Bulls, has already locked up his next year with a contract extension. He’ll stay with the team through at least the conclusion of the 2027 season. As he approaches his third season in charge, this new two-year agreement is in many ways a reflection of his growing commitment to the club.

Campbell is a former professional wicketkeeper-batter who played two ODIs for Australia. Off the pitch, he was head coach of the Netherlands. Ever since he first took the helm at Durham, the team’s success on the diamond has been extraordinary. Having been promoted as Division Two County Championship champions in 2023, they performed credibly in their returning season back in Division One, finishing fifth.

Campbell, 53, has spoken glowingly of feeling welcomed home since his arrival at Durham. He noticed a deep resonance between his experiences in Durham and growing up in Western Australia. He pointed out that what both places foster is that same small community, nurturing feel.

Under Campbell’s management, Durham now find themselves in a solid ninth place in the Division One table with just three games left to play. Yet, he remains confident in his new side’s chances, claiming they have what it takes to stay up.

“We’re playing against three teams that are around us. I’m really excited for the last month and I have no doubt we can not only survive but win all three games.” – Ryan Campbell

In addition to their league efforts, Campbell has guided Durham to the last eight of the T20 Blast in consecutive seasons. With Hampshire Hawks to come at home in the quarter-finals, the men’s team have been well and truly elevated to the domestic competitive elite.

Even with the underperformance of some of his players in this current County Championship campaign, Campbell is adamant in his belief and focus that the club must have.

“The County Championship hasn’t gone as well as we’d hoped this year but we are going to fight really hard in September,” – Ryan Campbell

The legacy Campbell has created since moving to Durham is hard to overlook. Marcus North, an instrumental leader at the club, stated what an asset Campbell was.

“The impact Ryan has made since joining us has been clear for everyone to see, and this extension is thoroughly deserved,” – Marcus North

Looking back on his journey thus far, Campbell took pride in the foundation that has been set during his time. He made clear his ambition to keep improving the small club he now calls home.

“When I came to the club, we had a lot of work to do and we’ve achieved some good stuff but I think there’s so much more to do,” – Ryan Campbell

“The community, the feeling you get that it’s us versus them, that is all so much like home in Perth. My kids and wife love it here and they’re big factors on any decision I make. I’ve got two more years to continue to improve this club and hopefully I’m still here after that. This is home now, and I could see myself being here for a long time.” – Ryan Campbell
