Denver Nuggets veteran point guard Russell Westbrook had surgery on his right hand earlier this week. At 36 years old, Westbrook is all in on his return to health. He, like all of us, can’t wait to get back on the court at full strength! He took the opportunity to thank everyone who helped support him all season. In a statement to fans and supporters, Westbrook said, “I’m grateful for everyone’s support all year and I can’t wait to be back out there at 100% soon.” His commitment to recovery reflects his long-standing dedication to the game and his desire to contribute meaningfully to his team’s success.
On-pitch, Westbrook has a sterling, Hall of Fame career interwoven with spectacular moments. He is a two-time NBA scoring champion and a nine-time NBA All-Star. He has played 1,237 games across teams such as the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and currently, the Nuggets. Over those 14 games, he’s put up stellar career averages of 21.2 points, 8.0 assists, and 7.0 rebounds.
This past season with the Nuggets, Westbrook averaged 13.3 points on 44.9% shooting efficiency, alongside 6.1 assists and 4.9 rebounds over 75 games. He’s made 1,075 of those games starts which is indicative of the impressive veteran presence he brings to the court. Despite facing challenges this season, including “two breaks that happened during the season,” Westbrook remains optimistic about his future.
“The comeback is already in motion #WhyNot,” he stated, indicating his proactive approach to rehabilitation. As he towers down the line, Westbrook is hell-bent on winning his first NBA title. Looking ahead, Westbrook has until June 29 to declare a player option on his existing deal. If he decides against it, he will be a free agent this summer. His player option for the 2025-26 season has a relatively low cap hit of $3.47 million.
