Russell Martin Issues Stark Warning to Rangers Players Following Opening Day Draw

Rangers manager Russell Martin raged at his players’ lack of professionalism. This was a week on from their opening day 1-1 draw with Motherwell in what was a terrible start to the Premiership campaign. The match took place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 23:34 UK time, and ended with both teams sharing the points.

Martin later offered the team a “brutal” self-assessment. He pointed out that it requires certain players to swallow their pride in order for this to grow and develop. He even went so far as to say a focus on individualism could jeopardize the team’s on-court performance and sustained success in the league. Of particular interest was the manager’s acknowledgement that a joint, collaborative effort is critical to getting good results.

During Rangers’ recent match with Motherwell, they were in a difficult spot. Even though they were expected to have a big offensive season, they failed to finish chances in front of goal. Martin was quick to criticize the performance, noting it was well below what he demands from his team. He urged a less selfish attitude from his stars in upcoming games.

Now fans and analysts are up in arms over the subsequent draw. It’s a bad omen for the Premiership campaign. Martin’s remarks should serve as a clarion call that much urgently needs to improve if Rangers are to seriously contend in the league this season.
