Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, has expressed confidence in the direction the club is taking under the stewardship of INEOS. Just three months into his tenure, Amorim believes that INEOS's decisions reflect a "clear path" to success for the team. Despite facing challenges, including being currently positioned 14th in the Premier League table and losing nine of his 23 matches at Old Trafford, Amorim remains optimistic about the future.
Amorim acknowledges the struggles he and the team have faced but views them as essential growth experiences. He stated, "I've lived here for three months, I've lived through certain things where I'm a more complete manager." He recognizes that losses and poor situations can lead to development and sees his time at Manchester as a transformative period. As he put it, "Because sometimes you need to lose, to be in a poor situation, to grow. I felt that in these three months."
The manager emphasizes the importance of balancing ruthlessness with understanding when making changes to the team. Amorim believes that some players might need to leave at the end of the season and finds it easy to explain this necessity to them. He said, "It's a balance of everything. If the team is trying and I understand they are trying but they cannot do it, I am not ruthless." Amorim believes such changes are vital for future success.
Amorim has defended INEOS's decision to make significant changes at Manchester United, which include making between 150 and 200 redundancies this year. He sees these decisions as part of a broader vision for the club's success. "I see a clear path, I see that from the board also. They are doing difficult changes, they are not popular, but they are doing them because they have a vision. That is clear," Amorim remarked.
Despite the challenges, Amorim remains focused on securing more victories on the pitch. His strategy includes nurturing his players' potential and understanding the unique context of each situation within the team. "You can have two similar situations but the context is completely different and I'm trying to understand everything in my team to help them to be better," he explained.
Amorim has only made one transfer so far, bringing in defender Patrick Dorgu during his first transfer window. This cautious approach reflects his belief in maintaining stability while gradually introducing necessary changes. The manager's ultimate goal is to guide Manchester United back to its former glory by combining strategic team adjustments with a focus on player development.
As Manchester United continues its season, Amorim will steer the team through their Europa League campaign resuming next month and their FA Cup defence against Fulham on Sunday. These upcoming challenges provide opportunities for Amorim to further implement his vision and demonstrate his leadership abilities.
