Mitchell though is close to returning from a toe injury that’s left him out since early January. His return would tremendously help his team’s efforts to lock down an AFC playoff berth and avoid the postseason in their second straight year. At the same time, other rookies are stealing the limelight with their impressive play in recent weeks.
Ware has emerged as a vital player for Miami, starting 34 games and showcasing an enhanced motor since breaking into the lineup in January. He’s the team’s leader in blocks. His 14 double-doubles are now tied with Yves Missi for the most by any rookie this season. His contributions have been massive as the team fights its way through a loaded Eastern Conference.
Collier’s been working to overcome some inconsistency from the field in terms of shot selection along with having a penchant for turnovers. His aggressiveness and playmaking ability really have stood out. This is even more remarkable considering that he became the Jazz starting point guard in January. It’s been great for him to get the opportunity and experience to work on his game during a pro season.
Castle, also an impressive player this season, had shown his versatility as much as expected – perhaps more so. That’s a huge loss with De’Aaron Fox out for the rest of the season with a pinkie injury. That opens up the opportunity for Castle to assume a larger role and establish himself as a consistent scoring option.
Bona has exceeded all expectations this year. Overcoming all of the off-court struggles the 76ers dealt with, he put together an incredible season. Renowned for his high motor coming out of college, he’s been a bright spot in flashes on a team toiling at the bottom of the league.
On short notice, Da Silva has more than held his own for the Magic, starting 36 games while averaging 21.8 minutes per game. His continued development has been key, particularly while Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero have both missed extended time with injuries. When it matters most, he’s always been the guy to put his team on his back.
Risacher, perceived by many as one of the most under-the-radar No. 1 overall picks in recents drafts, has surprised many. Turns out he was the best choice all along! His growth makes him an interesting long-term pairing with Wembanyama when he does return to the floor.
Dunn’s journey this season has been mixed, settling into a bench role early on despite Phoenix’s disappointing overall performance. Nevertheless, he has become an impactful defensive center, stepping up during injuries to Deandre Ayton and Robert Williams III, showcasing effectiveness in drop coverage and on the boards.
As it stands now, Wells has become one of the most heartwarming rookie success stories of this season. His net rating of +4.2 is second among rookies who play 20 or more minutes a night, right behind Edey. This accomplishment further highlights his importance on a squad that ruled the top of the Western Conference for most of the season.
As the Lakers’ roster has been loaded up with competition around the 30-year-old Knecht, his role has been continuing to fade. Nonetheless, he still holds the highest three-point shooting percentage of all rookie wings, and he’s sure to be a valuable asset in games to come.
Buzelis has been on a different level since taking over as a full-time starter on February 5. His improved play has been a godsend for the Bulls. After doing so successfully in recent years, they’re focused on making noise during the tournament stage of play.
Overall, it’s been a fantastic start to Sarr’s young professional career. He has a +4.6 net rating, which is not only good among rookies — it’s the best net rating among all rookies playing more than 20 MPG. His contributions only serve to deepen the talent pool this year from one of the strongest rookie classes in recent memory.
