Her all-round brilliance inspired her team to a memorable three-wicket triumph cloaked in high individual glory and spectacular drama.
Birmingham Phoenix set a challenging target, scoring 123 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 100 balls. Emma Lamb shone brightest for the Phoenix, not out on 56 as both sides contributed 116 runs to wides. This match was Lamb’s second half century of the tournament and the 17th half century of her career in all formats. The Phoenix could not find their footing and the Rockets presented a great display of disciplined bowling to keep Phoenix under the pump.
Trent Rockets were put under pressure early on in their chase of the target. Though Sciver-Brunt’s explosive knock gave England a much-needed boost, her fall triggered an utter collapse in the batting order. With the Rockets losing three wickets in ensuing overs, including both set batters, the final overs became particularly nail-biting. Massively knocking the objective with three wickets remaining, it showed amazing bravery in a troublesome situation.
Birmingham Phoenix put together a fantastic display of bowling to lay the foundations for their victory. Phoebe Brett was the pick of the bowlers returning exceptional figures of 3/19. Kirstie Gordon played a key role, picking up 2 wickets for 24 runs. These efforts maintained the competitive momentum of the Phoenix, but in the end it proved not enough to claim a victory.
Noteworthy contributions from other Birmingham players included Ellyse Perry, who scored 14 runs, and Amy Jones, who added 9 runs to the total. The team’s failure to establish a strong collaborative partnership turned out to be lethal in the long run.
