Robert Saleh Reflects on Heated Exchange with Jaguars Coach Liam Coen

New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh just did, but for a different reason. He took it personally during a fiery postgame exchange with Jacksonville Jaguars’ replacement coach Liam Coen. The confrontation occurred after the Jaguars’ victory over the Jets, during which Saleh’s comments about “legal signal stealing” sparked tension between the two coaches.

When Saleh made those comments about signal stealing last week, I don’t think he was trying to throw shade at Coen and the Jaguars’ coaching staff. At the very least, he came to recognize in his own defense that he could have used much better phraseology. Saleh sought to make sure that wasn’t the impression he was giving. After Jag’s game, he sought out Coen on the field to tell him how much he respects Coen’s work in leading the Jaguars.

At first, the two coaches failed to shake hands at midfield, which laid the groundwork for their furtive meeting becoming a shouting match. Tempers flared when they faced off against each other, with Saleh allegedly warning Coen to “Keep my f—ing name out of your mouth.”
