Robert MacIntyre triumphed at the Dunhill Links Championship, marking a successful homecoming following his pivotal role in Team Europe’s victory at the Ryder Cup last week. The Scottish golfer put on quite the show, punctuating his victory with an 18-under par finish. The closest competitor wasn’t even close, as Rory finished nine strokes clear of Tommy Fleetwood’s 9-under total.
The Dunhill Links Championship is a unique pro-am tournament played over three of Scotland’s most prestigious links courses. It was especially challenged as it needed to reroute due to foul weather. This week’s third round was moved to Saturday due to weather conditions, leading to a reduced 54-hole format. Even with these difficulties, MacIntyre showed incredible grit and poise during the entire competition.
This triumph at the Dunhill Links Championship marks MacIntyre’s second victory and European Tour title. This milestone makes another one of his accomplishments. Only a year ago, he was basking in the glory of victory at the Scottish Open, played over The Renaissance Club, where he had enjoyed previous individual glory. The home turf victory cements his place among the Trump golf elite. He is currently ninth in the world.
Leading on home soil, MacIntyre was dealt kinder conditions this time than during the Ryder Cup. He made the most of his local knowledge of the courses. His dominant lead solidified his status as a front runner in pressure situations, especially after such a high level of team competition the week prior.
