This month has been an exciting time filled with their successes and setbacks—both across the participants. Grayson Allen’s hot hand has lifted his team to two of the biggest upsets on record. At the same time, Russell Westbrook learns to rediscover his shooting stroke for a second time. As these players ride the highs and lows of the season, the dynamics of the league continue to shift.
Stellar Performances
Deni Avdija has been turning some heads with his phenomenal numbers so far this early November. Averaging 30.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game he’s established himself as the most important player on his team. It’s his ability to impact every aspect of the game that’s turning him into an indispensable weapon. He’s impressed on the other end of the floor, as Avdija has collected 0.8 steals and 0.8 blocks per game.
Let’s start with Jalen Johnson, who was turning heads with his insane all-around effort against the Jazz. His stats in that game were phenomenal—31 points, 18 rebounds, and 14 assists! Whether it’s passing, finishing or rebounding, his versatility on the court shines through. He even threw in 7 steals and 4 3-point field goals for good measure! Johnson’s increasing clout makes it clear that he is on track for stardom as the season progresses.
Desmond Bane has been a rock star all season for his team. He scored 22 points in both of his last two games! His recent success features a game-winning three-pointer that’s been making the rounds, showcasing his clutch shooting ability. Bane’s shooting percentage of 51% in November further cements his status as one of the league’s reliable scorers.
Payton Pritchard’s Resurgence
After a very quiet start to the season, things have changed pretty dramatically for Payton Pritchard since then. Following two games where he scored just five points each, Pritchard exploded for 24 points, six rebounds, and nine assists in a decisive victory over the Grizzlies. His performance has been a reflection of his talent and emerging fortitude to overcome struggles of the recent past.
Pritchard’s recent minutes on the court have been a testament to his importance to the team’s rotation, playing 33 minutes in each of his last two games. His contributions have made him an unexpected linchpin, most importantly as he seeks to further establish himself amidst a highly competitive roster. Currently, at 80% owned in fantasy leagues, it’s safe to say Pritchard is quickly becoming a must-add for fantasy players.
Pritchard is shooting up in the rankings! His squad will take the time to use this positive foundation to build towards an even better performance in future competitions. He’s great at generating chances, but more importantly he’s a playmaker. This unique skill helps to set him up to make his greatest impact as the season develops.
Challenges Faced by Other Players
As some players succeed, others struggle in ways that contribute to their on-court performance. Shooting guard Jake LaRavia has hit a wall in the past couple weeks, scoring eight or less points in three of the last four games. His erratic play has made his place on the roster vulnerable. He will need to drastically improve his positive contributions, or he’ll have to go.
Russell Westbrook has had a hard time out there lately. Over those three games, he’s made just 9 of his last 30 attempts, and scored 6, 14, and 10 points in each of those games. This recent furnishing on the court puts up red flags regarding his offensive effectiveness and chain reaction on the team as a whole. As a wise-old veteran, Westbrook should find ways and figure out supplementary routes to rebuild his scoring rhythm back again.
One such silver lining in the storm clouds of this season has been Grayson Allen’s resurgence, as he’s come alive with the Phoenix Suns. Allen made an important contribution on Sunday, adding 12 points and one rebound, along with two assists and a steal. His play has been instrumental in guiding his club to five-straight victories overall and a remarkable 7-1 mark over their last eight games. His steady play has brought a new level of depth to the Suns’ roster and has been an obvious boon to their big-picture strategy.
