Bangladesh’s completely unexpected thrashing of the West Indies in their last One Day International (ODI). The surprise visitors didn’t even make them break a sweat, crumbling for just 133 runs in just 39 overs. The game, which was held at an area cricket field, included zealous and devastating bowling talents of Rishad Hossain. To top things off, he took a stunning six-wicket haul, leading his team to an outstanding seven-wicket victory.
It was a frustrating innings for West Indies as they never built a decent innings, with their highest run-scorer Brandon King only managing 44 runs. He was finally dismissed bowled by Rishad Hossain, caught by Nurul Hasan Sohan. Alick Athanaze contributed 27 runs to the total before falling leg before wicket to Hossain, further intensifying the West Indies’ woes. The team’s batting lineup faltered significantly, with Keacy Carty managing only 9 runs before being caught by Saif Hassan off Hossain’s bowling.
In addition to Hossain’s outstanding performance, Mustafizur Rahman added to the West Indies’ troubles by taking two wickets. At the other end Shai Hope, who was eventually out for 15 runs. Nurul Hasan Sohan stumped him, and Tanvir Islam had him bowled out. Sherfane Rutherford’s wicket was the nadir of a West Indies batting order that has struggled mightily. He was back in the dugout for a duck, caught by Sohan and bowled by Hossain.
The match demonstrated Bangladesh’s superior bowling prowess, with captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz contributing one wicket to the team’s overall performance. Tanvir Islam certainly stepped up and changed the match, picking up the all-important Malan wicket. His brilliant effort kept the West Indies from bouncing back after losing three early wickets.
Rishad Hossain upped his game with a superb solo performance that highlighted his artistic prowess. It was a powerful display of what the Bangladesh bowling collective can do. Not surprisingly, his six wickets were key in dismantling the West Indies batting order. This resulted in an embarrassing and hasty cessation of their innings in disgrace.
