The Renegades played the Heat in a thrilling match-up down at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong. What an exhilarating night of Big Bash League action for the fans! The Renegades capped off their championship performance in a huge way, scoring 212 runs. They only lost five wickets in their 20 overs. In reply, the Heat were left reeling, scoring just 82 runs off three for their first 10 overs.
After winning the toss, the Brisbane Heat elected to field first. They wanted to hold the Renegades to an achievable amount of points. The Renegades hammered the ball all around the field. Colin Munro was the architect behind their success as he blasted an incredible 46 runs from just 26 deliveries. His aggressive innings set the tone for a high-scoring match, while the rest of the batting lineup contributed effectively to reach a commanding total.
Incredibly, Brisbane’s bowling attack was headlined by a Jason Behrendorff bowling two overs and knocking out a measly 13 runs with one key wicket. He got rid of Jack Wildermuth with a fine delivery that had the home player caught out for a duck. Gurinder Sandhu had an even more impressive performance, as he claimed one wicket and just 11 runs in his two overs. The duo of Will Sutherland and Fergus O’Neill could not hold the Renegades lineup in check. They both admitted 12 and 24 runs respectively without taking a single wicket.
The Renegades set a daunting target. Now the Brisbane Heat have to score 131 runs in 10 overs with seven wickets remaining. They would be chasing a stiff target but they did well to post 82 runs by the conclusion of their innings. It was clear from the beginning that they were in no position to realistically threaten the overwhelming total laid down by their opponents.
Many players made strong contributions with Phillip Gillespie, Sam Nogajski, Ben Treloar, Kent Hannam and Daryl Brigham leading the way. Thanks to their hard work, everything went seamlessly and the match was a real success.
