Ravens Struggle as Lamar Jackson Injures Hamstring in Loss to Chiefs

The Baltimore Ravens took one of the worst losses imaginable this past Sunday, taking a 37-20 drumming against the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Ravens’ loss dropped them to a miserable 1-3. That would be just the third time they’ve been in that position at this stage of the franchise history. Quarterback Lamar Jackson wasn’t good when pressured on Sunday. It got even worse after he exited the game early in the third quarter due to a hamstring injury.

… and Lamar Jackson was under constant duress all game long. He faced pressure on 56% of his dropbacks, which was the highest percentage he’s faced in any game with at least ten dropbacks. His problems showed clearly as he threw an interception and lost a fumble after hitting center Tyler Linderbaum. Jackson’s last play of the game resulted in him being crunched by Chiefs defensive end George Karlaftis. This crucial snap ultimately sent Jackson to an early shower.

Following the injury, Jackson remained on the sideline with his team. He would flex his injured right leg in an outward motion but did not get back onto the field. In that game, Head Coach John Harbaugh stated that the team was concerned about Jackson’s health. He did not give concrete details on exactly how serious the injury is.

“I’m concerned but not overwhelmed by the 1-3 start,” – John Harbaugh

The Ravens have put a heavy load on Jackson, who has proven an impressive ability to stay on the field the past few seasons. He has not missed a game since being sidelined for the final five regular season games in 2022 due to a knee injury. After this most recent blow, questions abound about his readiness for next Sunday’s showdown against the Houston Texans. If Jackson can’t play, backup quarterback Cooper Rush would get the nod as a starter for Baltimore.

Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton shared his support for Jackson, stating, “Praying for Lamar,” highlighting the team’s camaraderie during difficult times. The Ravens’ three losses this season have come against what Harbaugh described as “probably three of the top teams in the league, for sure.”
