Rattler Takes the Helm for Saints Preseason Finale Against Broncos

Spencer Rattler will make his second consecutive start as quarterback for the New Orleans Saints in their preseason finale against the Denver Broncos. This decision will be Rattler’s second start of the preseason. He made his first appearance on the field during the season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers, shocking the football world. Head Coach Kellen Moore announced the start-time switch. He’s making this change so he can get all three quarterbacks on the roster in, fair shot to assess.

Moore stressed that just because Rattler is currently listed as the starter, that doesn’t mean he’s the clear frontrunner to win the job when the regular season arrives. “I think our whole goal at the beginning was not to put a timeline on this thing,” he stated. The coach clarified that the aim is to assess each quarterback’s performance, which includes featuring Rattler, Tyler Shough—who started last week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars—and potentially a third option.

Moore would love to have as many starting-types on the field when his squad takes on the Broncos. Key cogs such as center Erik McCoy and running back Alvin Kamara have yet to see the field this preseason. Fans are impatiently waiting to hear about their re-upping!

Moore stressed again today that no job will be won permanently until the conclusion of the game against Denver. “We’re not going to be one of those college teams that like, walks the guy out the first play and you guys get to know [then]. Don’t worry about that,” he remarked, indicating a more reserved approach to quarterback selection.

Katherine Terrell, a seasoned NFL reporter who began covering the league in 2013, has returned to ESPN to focus on the New Orleans Saints. A graduate of LSU and a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Terrell’s insights provide a local perspective on the team’s developments this summer.

Even so, the Saints are looking ahead to their upcoming game against Denver. Fans should expect all eyes on Rattler this summer when he races to earn his place among the team’s quarterback candidates. Coach Moore’s commitment to evaluating all options will keep fans engaged as they await news on who will lead the Saints into the regular season.
