Vaclav Cerny on a season-long from Wolfsburg. His impact at Rangers was remarkable, netting 17 goals in all competitions, six of those coming in the Europa League. Despite his strong form since joining the club, Rangers do not hold an exclusive purchase option in the agreement. With uncertainty over Cerny’s future with Belgian club Lierse increasing, Rangers are hopeful of keeping him beyond his initial loan spell.
Barry Ferguson is the latest to call on the club to make Cerny’s stay permanent. He went on to call Cerny a “difference maker,” and stressed what an important player he’s been for the Rangers this season.
“He’s been a big, big player for me. I don’t know the contract situation, but he’s certainly a player that can light up a game, certainly in the final third.” – Barry Ferguson
By all accounts, Cerny is loving life in Glasgow so far. His eagerness to play for Rangers makes the Bear’s dreams of a longer-term connection more likely.
“He really enjoys being here in Glasgow. He really enjoys playing for Rangers. Hopefully, that will continue.” – Barry Ferguson
As the club continues to fight its way through Cerny’s complex contract situation off the pitch. Rangers have been fined approximately £25,000 and face a suspended partial stadium closure by UEFA due to a racist incident involving a banner displayed by certain individuals. The club has been and is still working to issue lifetime bans to everyone responsible. If a similar incident happened during any UEFA match, then the Ibrox Copland Stand would be closed down.
